Who We Are

Women’s Media Group, established in 1974, is a nonprofit organization based in New York composed of women who have gained prominence in various media fields. Our over 500 members, coming from book, magazine, and newspaper publishing, as well as film, television, online, and digital media, gather to meet, collaborate, share information, support each other, and mentor young women interested in media careers. We aim to promote the status of all women through the influence of communication and media.

Speaker Series: A vibrant way to connect, these ticketed, sit-down events occur on a regular basis and are open to guests. Programming includes Ms. magazine luncheons and topic-specific talks led by notable women in their respective fields.

Lunch and Learn Virtual Events: One-hour sessions focused on practical insights and candid conversations, featuring an invited speaker or a moderator-led panel discussion. Free for WMG members, open to others for a small fee.

Power Hour Programs: WMG Power Hours are dynamic programs designed to explore the evolving landscape of media through the lens of leadership, innovation, and inclusion. By spotlighting diverse voices, experiences, and expertise, Power Hours strengthen our community and expand our members’ capacity to lead in an increasingly dynamic and interconnected media landscape.

Small Group Socials: Intimate meetups hosted by members—either at someone's home, a restaurant, or other venue such as a museum or theater—that gather 10 to 12 members to connect, get to know each other, and build community. Often focused on a particular topic of interest to WMG members.

Signature Celebrations and Other Programming: Additional events often include the holiday party, movie screenings, summer happy hours, and other special activities organized by the Programming Committee. New ideas are always welcome, and there’s plenty of room to explore new formats.

The Rise Fund: An initiative focused on supporting and empowering our members in their professional endeavors. The Rise Fund, which provides financial support for professional development opportunities that concretely help members enhance their career growth, is funded by the Women’s Media Group Educational Foundation.
