An intimate evening with WMG and celebrated dancer, author, trailblazer, and mentorship advocate Misty Copeland.

Join this very special fundraising event in support of the Women’s Media Group Educational Foundation, which funds WMG’s annual scholarships granted to future publishing and media professionals who have demonstrated leadership in advancing literacy and promoting underrepresented voices. This event features celebrated dancer Misty Copeland.

Misty made history as the first African American principal ballerina at the American Ballet Theatre. Her talent, passion, and perseverance enabled her to make strides no one had previously accomplished. But, as she will tell you, an achievement never happens in a void. Her new memoir, The Wind at My Back, shares the story of her friendship with dance pioneer Raven Wilkinson. Their journey captures the importance of mentorship, shared history, and honoring the past to ensure a stronger future.

This evening features:

  • Misty in conversation with HuffPost Editor in Chief, Danielle Belton about her career, her struggles with racism and exclusion, as well as the transformative power of supportive intergenerational friendships

  • A signed copy of Misty’s memoir The Wind at My Back

  • Light bites and beverages

  • Networking reception with fellow WMG members and guests

Every year, the Women’s Media Group Educational Foundation depends on fundraising to support its growing scholarship partnerships with New York City-based colleges and universities. WMG Scholars are given stipends for tuition, granted three years of free WMG membership, and invited to participate in our mentorship program. The number of scholarships we can support depends on the amount of dollars we raise. By attending this event, you will contribute essential financing to WMG’s 2023 scholarship plans.

This event is held in partnership with Pride Global at their private event space, the Flight Deck. Pride Global is a minority-owned professional recruitment and staffing advisory firm located in NYC with locations throughout the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, Canada, Singapore, the Philippines, and India. They assist clients with direct hire and contract talent search solutions across a variety of skill sets and industries.

*Note: the virtual option for this event includes the livestream of Misty and Danielle’s conversation only and does not include a copy of The Wind at My Back. Email info@womensmediagroup.org with any questions.
